Simon Denny has produced two 100x100cm printed canvases bearing logos for elaw.com, one of several failed companies from the early 2000s “revived” through Web3 technology in his Dotcom Séance project. Together with Cosmographia and Guile Twardowski, Denny has reactivated these companies by giving them new logos, which also take the form of NFTs. Alongside the canvases, a Document Relief where Twardowski’s new elaw.com logo is carved into the Ethereum Yellow Paper, reflecting on the connection between the dead (if prescient) company and the present refrain that “code is law”. A QR code linking to the Dotcom Séance website will give viewers an immediate gateway to participate in the project.

Simon Denny (b. 1982 Auckland, New Zealand) lives and works in Berlin, Germany. He makes exhibitions that unpack the social and political implications of the technology industry and the rise of social media, startup culture, blockchains and cryptocurrencies, using a variety of media including installation, sculpture, print and video. He studied at the Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland, and at the Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main. Denny has curated significant exhibitions about blockchain and art such as Proof of Stake at Kunstverein in Hamburg (2021) and Proof of Work at Schinkel Pavillon, Berlin (2018). Recent solo exhibitions include Dotcom Séance on folia.app, www.dotcomseance.com and the K21 – Kunstsammlung Nordrhein Westfalen.
